Curry Wurst Takeaways

Takeaway Curry Wurst which is a sausage with gravy and then a topping of curry powder. We shared one and it was very nice, it included a bread roll and cost 2 euro and 80 cents.

It was good on a cold day and started to rain while we sat on the bench and ate it.

Riesling to take home?

Lots of places are selling Riesling plants to take home at 7 euro each. Pity we can't bring one home.

Morning Coffee and Fig Balsamic Vinegar

We had a lazy start to the day and it was about 10am and I needed a coffee, so we headed out across the bridge in order to find a coffee and some bread.

We found a little bread shop and it smelt lovely when we walked in there with the smell of fresh breads.

We bought a baguette and a couple of pastries - A bit over 3 euro.

We then went for a little wander around the streets to find a coffee and we came across a little shop that had lots of nice vinegar's and mustard's.

We could try these so we tried a few and ended up buying a 200ml bottle of fig balsamic for 5 euro and 30 cents. We will go back and check out some more before we leave as it is a nice product and at a good price.

There was a cafe at the top of the stairs in the stop so we decided to have a coffee there. We walk up the stairs and out towards the front and found ourselves near the main road again but still inside so we sat down and ordered a couple of espresso.

1 Euro 90 cents per cup so we had 2 cups each.

Arrived in Cochem

We have finally arrived in Cochem after a very long journey of about 33 hours.

The day started in Christchurch leaving for the airport at about 8am.

We decided to try Uber and see how they went, and we had a great experience. I used the app to request a pickup to take us to the airport and it said I driver was 2 minutes away. A minute later he was at our gate.  Use this link to save $10 on your first fare with uber - click here

The driver only lived down our street so it worked out well for both of us - the fare was $34 which was cheap compared to a taxi which I estimate at $80-$100

So at the airport we check-in for our flight to Singapore and have a coffee.

Christchurch - Singapore  9 hours + 50 minutes

The flight was as most flights are not too bad but there was some turbulence for quite a bit of the flight. Food was OK and there was as always lots of water and Orange Juice during the flight. The entertainment units are still the same old units which are getting pretty low quality in this day.

We arrive in Singapore and have a 5 hour wait. Time went quite fast but we were quite tired and were keen to move on with the next segment.

Singapore - Zurich 13 hours + 10 minutes

This flight just seemed to go on forever.  Swiss planes are not that flash a bit like the Singapore out of Christchurch. The screens are so old and so low (in the seat above) I could not even be bothered to try to watch a movie - just a waste of time especially when the seat in front is reclined.

The food out of Singapore was quite nice with a nice appetizer of Soba Noodles and Prawn. The main was OK but nothing flash.

We arrive In Zurich at just after 6am and our next flight is not until 11am. Zurich airport looks quite nice but not a lot except expensive shops and duty free.

Coffee is really expensive - 6 CHF for a small Cappuccino - $9 NZD.

Food was really expensive so we passed on that.

Zurich - Frankfurt 1 Hour

The flight to Frankfurt was quick and simple and went pretty quickly. They did a drink round during the quick flight which was nice. We arrive in Frankfurt and have to walk what seems like forever to pickup out bags. But the bags are there and waiting by the time we get to the carousal.

Next to tackle the Train

Frankfurt - Cochem 2 hours + 30 minutes via Koblenz.

We used a machine to get our tickets and after managing to work out how to use it and answer its questions it decided it did not like my credit card which worked in Zurich. Pam had another one and we used that and no problem.

It printed 3 items, 1 Receipt, 1 Ticket, and 1 Schedule.

The Schedule was in English and included the track we depart and arrive on with the times. The ticket was not in English and quite hard to understand. I went to the information counter and asked about validation of the ticket and he said that there is a conductor on board to will check the ticket. We asked another person if the ticket was for 2 people and they confirmed.

19 Euro each for the trip from Frankfurt to Cochem.

We head down and it is very cold about 4 degrees at the train tracks - but we only had about 20 minutes to wait. The train arrived 1 minute late and we got on a grabbed a seat with a table. The train in an ICE train which means Intercity Express. So it only stops at some stations.

We had a nice train trip following the Rhine river and we saw a lot of things we had seen in the guide books along the way with castles and lots of villages passing us by.

We arrive in Koblenz 1 minute late and our connection time was 6 minutes. We know where to get to from Track #3 to Track #9 - We get in the lift and find the corresponding lift back up for Track #9 and see the train is almost going to leave. We manage to get on and a minute later it is leaving the station.

This train is a Regional train which stops at each station - and there was quite a few about every 3-4 minutes along the route. We arrive in Cochem and need to ring our apartment owner to get her to pick up us - my cell is dead but there is a Phone Box so we use that (50 euro cents, but we only had a 1 euro coin - no change) and get through and they arrive to pick us up and take us to the apartment which is only 2 mins away by car.

Apparently there was some snow earlier that morning and it was quite cold when we were at the Cochem train station. The apartment is on the other side of the river which had the sun shining on it and it was quite warm while the sun was out.

We are here......

Pre-dinner drinks

We had a couple of Mosel Rieslings - we went for the sweeter one and the medium one.

The medium was pretty dry and the sweater one was more like a medium from back home.

Not great but interesting to try - 6 Euro Each.
