Wurzburg

After our slight delay in getting into Wurzburg we decided to walk across the bridge where you can buy a Wine and pay a deposit for the glass and walk over the bridge.

The wine was 5 Euro 60 cents with a 5 Euro deposit for the wine glass. The wine was very nice and it was a great way to just walk around and have a nice wine.

After the bridge walk we went back to get our deposit back on the glass and bought two more glasses of wine and sat in the little wine shop and relaxed.

A little tour group came in and they tried the wines about 4-5 of them and then they bought some wine and left. We were just about to finish out wine and I asked if we can do the wine tasting? The lady said yes do we tried 4 wines and decided to buy a bottle of bubbles 10 euro to take home.

After this on no food and stress in our body we went back to the hotel and blobbed out until dinner.

Leaving Bamberg

We ate breakfast in our hotel in Bamberg (not included) just coffee and a few bread rolls with Jam and orange juice.

We paid are accommodation and asked for a taxi to take us to the train station.

We got to the train station in plenty of time and bought a ticket for 25 EURO for both of us to Wurzburg.

Our train was at 10:26 and we got to the right track about 10am.

There was a lot of people who looked like they were going to the Soccer somewhere.

The display said out train was leaving at 10:26 and another train at 10:36 to Nuremberg.

The train showed up at 10:24 (said Wurzburg) so we got on it. It did not leave for 10 minutes which seemed a bit odd. It was very busy with lots of people going to the Soccer game.

About 40 minutes into it Pam said she though we are going the wrong way so I pulled out the phone and checked and it did look like we were going to Nuremberg. Not long later we heard that the train was stopping in Nuremberg and it was the end of the line for it.

So I checked for another train to Wurzburg and there was one in about 6 minutes and ICE train. So we found the line (just next to where we got off) and waited a few minutes and jumped on.

We found a second class cabin and threw our bags up top (23KG so not quite a throw) and grabbed a seat. A few minutes later we hear the german word "Entschuldigen" which means excuse me and apparently we were sitting in someones reserved seats.

The carriage was full and so was the next so we basically stood between the carriages for the journey.

About 20 minutes later the inspector comes along and I show him our tickets and he says these are not valid on this train. I try to explain to him that we got to the track on time, and the correct train but it took us to Nuremberg instead of Wurzburg. In the end he said enjoy Wurzburg and walked off so we were very lucky. We still do not know what happened as everything looked good.

We need to catch a train tomorrow morning from Wurzburg to Frankfurt airport and do not want a repeat as we will miss our plane.

On arrival to Wurzburg we grabbed a taxi and it took us to our hotel with no issues.... Very odd...

Bamberg

The driving part of the holiday is now over after dropping the rental car in Bamberg and getting a taxi to our hotel 11 Euro.

Leaving Burg Colmburg

We are leaving Burg Colmburg in about 30 minutes, we have had a lovely time here. The castle is a lot more authentic that Burg Richenstien on the Rhine.

The castle is like a museum that you live in, out room has two single beds with carved head board and foot board?

We have a nice stone wall which is the outside wall of the castle and a great view out the window over the farm yards below and across the plains.

Dinner at the Castle Night 2

Spargil Soup (White Asparagus Soup)

Chris had pork medallions in a mushroom sauce and Pam had Spargal

Desert was an Espresso with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream in it.

A walk into Colmburg

We went for a walk during the day to see the local Colmburg village which is only down the hill.

It was about lunchtime and there was very little going on - the town only has 44 streets.

The main little grocer shop was closed.

There looked to be a pub and a pizza bar open.

It was now 12 o'clock and the Church bells started ringing we we decided to take a look in there.

We decided we would eat at the castle again since it was so nice the previous night.

A nice beer was in order on our return from the walk in the castle outdoor area.

Dinner at the Castle Night 1

The castle has a nice little annex for dinner with lovely views out over the farmland around the hotel.

For starters we both had a soup - Chris has a Carrot and Ginger Soup with a Prawn wrapped in a string of crunchy potato. Pam had a Wine soup which had a lot of cheese in it and it was very rich.

For mains we both had a dish of Pork and Beef with a lovely Cognac sauce servers on a small sword.

Both dishes come with a potato rosti.

The soups were around 4 EURO and the mains 16 Euro.

We both had a wine, Pam a white wine and Chris had a red wine. The red wine tasted of Cherries and was ok but not something I would want again and Pam's was rather not nice. About 4 Euro each.

There was no room left for anything else..

A nice evening.
