This is hardly a major trip but a small quick getaway after the long winter – we are only staying for 2 nights in Queenstown but it will be nice to get away. This trip is planed for October 2009.
Queenstown is an international resort town in Otago in the south-west of New Zealand's South Island. It is built around an inlet on Lake Wakatipu, a long thin lake formed by glacial processes that is shaped like a staggered lightning bolt, and has spectacular views of nearby mountains.
We are flying down from Christchurch on Saturday and returning on Monday – The prices we found online for the flights were pretty cheap:
Flying down : $29 Each
Flying up : $79 Each
We are flying JetStar – see http://www.jetstar.co.nz
We will not have a car while there but a couple of days should mean we do not need one. We may take the boat below for a cruise and just relax and eat some nice food – well that is the plan.
The TSS Earnslaw (above) is a 1912 vintage twin screw steamer plying the waters of Lake Wakatipu. It is one of the oldest tourist attractions in Central Otago. You can go out on tours around the waters of Queenstown. See http://www.realjourneys.co.nz/main/tssearnslaw_wp/
Just have to wait for winter to finish and it has only just begun….
